Major Edwards Morning Drop-Off
When dropping off students in the morning, please use the middle driveway, turn left into the main parking lot, and proceed to the drop off sign. One or more adults are on duty supervising students. Students can then use the crosswalk to get to the sidewalk in front of the building. Cars should then proceed to the end of the parking lot and turn left to exit.
This system keeps cars from driving through the crosswalk area directly in front of the building, and keeps cars from interfering with the buses.
The first driveway (nearest to the playground) is reserved for buses only in the morning; 7:50 - 8:30 is the usual time for bus arrivals. This driveway is also reserved for buses at the end of the day, from 2:30 to 3:00.
Parents and visitors should not park on Crescent St., or in front of the building at anytime during the school day. The front of the building is considered a fire lane for emergency vehicles and should be kept open and unobstructed at all times. Your cooperation with this traffic scheme is greatly appreciated.
Major Edwards Afternoon Pick-Up
The guidelines for pick-ups at dismissal times are as follows:
Parents will send in a note with their child if they are picking up their child at dismissal. If a child will be picked up every day, one note specifying that fact will suffice, and the parent need only send in a note if that arrangement is to be altered. The office will permanently add that student’s name to our pick-up list.
The office will create a list of all students being picked up. Parents are asked to avoid calling, faxing, or emailing this information, unless it is an emergency. Please do not leave a message if you do need to call in.
At dismissal time (beginning at 2:50), the office will call all students who are being picked up. Those students will go to the gym at that time and be supervised by the Edwards staff. The office will then call all students to be dismissed to buses by grade level (2:50 - 3:00). Once all buses have departed, then pick-up students will be dismissed (beginning at 3:00).
Parents should plan their arrival for 3:00 - 3:15. However, parents arriving before 3:00 may park in our lot in a designated parking space (please do not block parked cars or block the driveways), or park in the large lot at the corner of Goodale and Crescent streets, and then proceed to Edwards once the buses have left. Please do not park on Crescent St. Parents should use the first driveway and pull up to the front door, remaining in their car, to pick up their child (3:00 - 3:15). Your child will be brought out to your car.
Parents should arrive for pick-up no later than 3:15- which provides a 15-minute window. Any student not picked up by 3:15 will be brought to the After School Child Care program and the parent will be charged a minimum of $5 for any time up to the first 15 minutes and $5 for any subsequent 15 minute block or portion thereof.
Mid-day pick-ups for preschool and kindergarten students will follow a similar protocol, except that the respective classroom teachers will bring the children to the front doors and supervise them to your vehicle. Again, once the buses have left, parents will pull up to the front door, remaining in their car, to pick up their child (11:10- 11:25).
